The Art of Speed is a work that shows the interaction between a three-dimensional overhanging sculpture and a two-dimensional painting on wall. It uses the various spatial traits of different artworks, such as the expression of entity produced through the interweaving technique, combined with the fun factor of reflection. This, in turn, accentuates spatial tension, thus revealing the enrichment of visual images and captivating imagination within such limited space. In the creation of this work, industrial materials such as stainless steel pipes, cement mortar paint and fluorescent light bulbs were used to sufficiently reveal the beauty of the coldness of metallic materials. The attachment of the ice skates enhances the elegance of figure skating and the acceleration and power of speed skating. The presence of the neon light numbers illustrates how we perceive sports and speed as a form of art in this new century. As in 20th century Western arts, common arts are inspired by the spirit of fetishism and the influential media. Profound ideas of “concept art” are brought out from concrete objects. Interpreted in an artist’s unique idiom, The Art of Speed shows the texture of contemporary art while at same time presenting the beauty of speed. This is a rare piece of “optical training” for the viewer. (Translated by Mr. Farhad Abdul CASSIN ; Proof reader )
