This artwork is located in the former Chengde Labor Culture Park (“Labor Park”), a multi-functional park centered on introducing the world of work. The yellow gear represents friends at work united in their efforts, which is the giant wheel that’s crucial for keeping society going. The blue screws symbolize blue-collar workers, who are the indispensable backbones in all walks of life. The human figures painted blue, red and orange sit or stand or push the gears, symbolizing the interdependent relationship between job-seekers and employment agencies. The work is made of steel, making deft use of red, orange, yellow, green and blue colors, as well as abstract geometric forms and ready-made objects. It is installed in the sunlit lawn of Labor Park. In combination with the sunlight and the fragrant grass and trees, this work of art seeks to bring vitality to the environment, provide people with a space in which to rest and think, and inspire more children in the neighborhood to become artists.
