The first two characters of the title (guangmao) describe a geographical area. Guang refers to the directions east and west while mao means‘north and south’. The two characters wuyin means‘borderless and accommodating’. The title points to the rich historical significance of the locale, the WenShan District, while also alluding to the MuZha Area’s many pragmatic charms. For the artist, the vertical elements represent people, mountains, buildings, trees, lampposts, etc. Horizontal elements are associated with tables and chairs, cars, rivers, flying birds, airplanes, clouds, etc. The name “Boundless Expanse” can be linked with the character “cha” (‘fence’) in the place name “MuZha”(‘wooden fence’) by extending the concept of boundlessness and far-reaching character. It is hoped that the title and the work, with their exhilarating and refreshing connotations, can lead to spiritual convergence with motorists slowly traversing the interchange in both directions, as well as serve as allusions to the local character and charm of Taipei’s MuZha Area.
