The literal meaning of “Chun Feng Hua Yu” refers to the ideal wind and rain conditions under which vegetation thrives. Figuratively, it alludes to the ability of a good teacher to exert a beneficial influence on his or her students, thereby creating an ideal learning environment in which students will flourish. This artwork has not only been created in honor of those teachers who have given generously of themselves in guiding their students, but also serves as a symbol of those students who have been enlightened through a well-organized educational environment. The fine performance of both teachers and students constitutes the foundation for Taiwan’s continuing development. This work utilizes the element of natural light, together with the multiplicity of angles formed by the aluminum pipes, to create endless changes in light and shadow as the viewer shifts position. The visual effect is similar to showers of spring rain. This structure, simple in nature, constitutes an outsized work of art embodying endless permutations. In short: it is a minimalist artwork with infinite possibilities. For such a simple and subtle work to express the significance of “Chun Feng Hua Yu” is truly like the caress of a spring breeze.
