Taipei Public Art - Collection

On "The Railway of Time." a series of station signs carries us back to the train depots of days gone by, representing the collective experiences of the city, and inspiring us all to recall our own railroad stories. These station signs revive the long vanished rail lines that once passed by here. connecting the thread of history, and standing as markers of the imagination. On top of each station sign, building-block reproductions of scenes from the past enable us all to relive the enchanting times when these stations were still in operation. This site was originally known as Kabayama Freight Station, located in the district of Kabayama Cho, which was named in honor of the first Japanese colonial governor-general of Taiwan. Kabayama Sukenori. After governance of Taiwan was transferred to Chinese hands following World War II. its name was changed to Huashan Freight Station. In times past, it served as the main logistics hub for the greater Taipei area. The extant structure was one of the station's train platforms.
