The English title for this work is "HI ! LIFE," whereas the Chinese name translates literally as "Beautiful Life." Together they express a desire for a high quality of life. This piece focuses on one of the best known sight-seeing spots in the city, utilizing images and atmosphere from Taipei Zoo as its central motifs. Many of the zoo animals, cable cars and the lush green vegetation of the surrounding forest area are represented in energetic and lively compositions. These totems are inter-connected and displayed through hollowed out aluminum alloy plates, which not only beautify the local building landscape, but also reduce the covered area to a minimum. Although the surrounding fence is not tall enough to block visitors' views of the surrounding mountains, the differences in height and flowing curved lines formed by the series of hollowed out screens, are almost an echo of the surrounding mountain landscape. With the mountains in the distance and sights to see at hand, the clear layering of the work presents visitors with a visual and environmental experience that is both rich and vivid.
