The mural Tropicale 50GY 23/536, was commissioned for the inauguration of the Taipei Bioinnovation Park in 2023. The title Tropicale 50GY 23/536 is quoted from the name and reference number of the predominant green color used in the artwork. The name, given by an industrial paint company to a color, was chosen as the title of the artwork to acknowledge the economic and industrial nature of the paint used in its production. The content for this commission is a traditional floral pattern, appropriated by the artist from a textile, which was made in Taiwan between the 1960' s and 1980' s. The patterned textiles became outdated yet have been reintroduced into the local market from the 2000's to the present, signifying the emergence of interest in Taiwanese history and culture. The floral pattern preserves a traditional culture that was closely linked to agrarian life and the natural environment. While the printing process of the textile is a direct result of mechanical reproduction and industry, the textile embodies the coming together of nature and technology, akin to the combination of the natural and engineering sciences in biotechnology.
