This public artwork introduces the thematic element of “earth” by placing seven ceramic panels on the lower level of the building façade. These ceramic sculpted panels feature carnations, roses, lilies and dandelions. The carnations represent care, justice, goodness and determination: the qualities that justice officials should have. Roses symbolize love and passion, the most important elements in life, motivating the progress of society. Lilies denote purity and sanctity, indicating that the law is holy and inviolable. Dandelions flowing in the air epitomize liberty and redemption; they are the ultimate goals of the law, protecting the freedom of the people. Inserted in between the floral images are panels depicting the sun, moon and stars. This symbolizes that all things in the universe change, even heavenly bodies, but the law alone is changeless, eternal and stable. These ceramic reliefs of the sun, moon and stars were created in collaboration with the Taipei Prison Pottery Workshop as part of an art education program, which is the work’s most meaningful aspect. Through this work the artist hopes to convey the spirit and significance of the law.
